Is Alex.. ok? If you ask anybody with logic, the answer currently is no, it's clear he's going through something. Alex has watched his friends and family lap him in terms of success when it comes to gold and it's getting to him the more he ages. Surrounded by his family, Alex is trying his hardest to combat this weird phase he's in.
