John Reid

Born 7th August 1951. John Reid was a big kid, grew up in northern England, playing rugby from a young age. At the age of 16, he found himself at a circus, and became obsessed with becoming a strongman. He trained and he trained, working in a small circus from the ages of 18-22. Before he found himself at a world of sport event, featuring a match between Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks, two of the biggest in the UK at the time. He became enamoured by professional wrestling and his life completely changed trajectory. After training for less than a year, John made his debut match, against a man named Hurricane Bundy. The match was okay, very simple match, Bundy was a beast of a man, making it harder for John to work with him as an inexperienced rookie. John was then signed by the WOW (World Of Wrestling) where he spent most of his career, throughout his early time at WOW, he competed in matches, honing in his style and skills as he did so, the British crowds started loving him. Every time he went out to the ring, crowds would turn electric, around the time of 1986, people started dubbing him “The British Hulk Hogan”. He won championship after championship in WOW, doing what every good face of a promotion does. Until 1993 when WOW was caught up in a steroid related legal scandal. Eventually only the CEO of WOW was found guilty of anything illegal. Leading to John taking over the promotion. After this, he realised that his real call was the business, he took WOW to new highs, making them the biggest promotion in Britain. 2024 rolls around.
